Beggy’s World: all about Euroleague (#3)

Hi all,

Last two weeks have been super chaotic and busy on the personal level and I couldn’t concentrate myself to write something here. But from today, I am back on regular basis.

Non ending double weeks… Outburst of Coach Reneses

For a EuroLeague team, any week is super busy, but December is the craziest month, I guess. And with all the postponed matches added, so teams literally have no rest. OK. This is nothing new and we literally talk about this tough schedule all the time and it is not getting any better. And ‘everyone’ is just keep complaining about it. This week it was the turn ALBA Berlin’s head coach “Aíto” García Reneses. The coach tweeted about their schedule from Sunday to Saturday (you can see it below) asking if it is logical to have such schedule. Yeah, ALBA has four away games (2xBBL + 2xEL) in seven days… And I believe Coach has all the rights to ask that rhetorical question. But I am not sure if his voice is heard by the decision-makers.

The Crossover podcast of Joe Arlauckas is back!

The third season of Crossover podcast is back with a special guest: Andrea Trinchieri. Looking back at the season so far, there is no better guest to start this podcast with. I enjoyed it personally. Coach Trinchieri has a lot to offer and having read / watched / made interviews about him & with him is not enough to discover him. There are always new things that you learn about the coach. So, go ahead and listen / watch the podcast. (Yeah, this season there is also YouTube option for the podcast if you like to see faces while listening them like me)

Fenerbahce Beko…

Hard to say much about this team at the moment… This team has, arguably, been on top of European basketball in the last 5-6 seasons and now they are falling from the ‘top’ and getting all the hurtful scratches from the tree branches, so they are bleeding and falling… Let’s see when they will see the bottom and how long they’ll be hospitalized before they jump back (if they’ll ever jump back).

Meanwhile, EuroDevotion made an interview with GM Maurizio Gherardini before their home game against Olimpia Milano. Click HERE for this must-read interview.

Ahh… and one more thing: today Gigi Datome will be back to his ‘home’. So, this game will be super emotional for thousands of people including Gigi himself. Fenerbahce vs Olimpia Milano game is not my game of the week, but it is surely a must-watch game.

My game of the week – Round 14: CSKA Moscow vs Anadolu Efes

Until the next Final Four Final game, if these two are playing against each other, that game will be my game of the week. CSKA is not always playing perfect but they mostly play well and find a way to win their games. On top of that, Mike James is playing ‘ridiculously’ great these days; so, any CSKA game should be exciting anyway… On the other side, Coach Ergin Ataman’s Efes hasn’t been showing their best this season yet. But no one could guess what healthy Shane Larkin could do on the court. Plus, Efes won the last game in Moscow. I’m definitely looking forward to this game this evening.

My game of the week – Round 15: FC Bayern Munich vs TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz

Let’s start with the guests… Baskonia doesn’t have the best results so far but they are doing ok and proving to be a playoff contender. They have a lot of new names in the roster along with a lot of talent. They won their last two away games against Olympiacos and Efes. So, Bayern has to be ready for a tough battle. Speaking of Bayern, they are doing almost perfect so far. As Coach Trinchieri admits in various post-game press conferences, Bayern players find a way to win the game. There are highly performing players in Bayern, but they are playing as a team and Trincheri’s team is not about well-performing individuals.

Just a quick note on the injuries, Vladimir Lucic played in Khimki game last time which was on December 4th. After that game, Bayern played three games in BBL and one in EuroLeague… As the club reported, he has / had an injury related to his back and so far, he is questionable. Leaving BBL games aside, Bayern players found a way to cover for Lucic against ASVEL. However, missing him in double-week might be costly to German powerhouse.

This was all for this week. I hope you made it until here 😊

Cheers!
