Velimir Perasovic, Coach of Unics Kazan, talked to AREA 52 on monday night. A very interesting opinion about young players leaving early ex Jugoslavia. Then he focused on John Brown III.

Coach Velimir Perasovic talked to AREA 52 on Twitch.tv monday night.

He gave his opinion about a lot of themes from Euroleague Basketball but two answer stole our eye.

About Jugoplastika model in the late 80’s winning multiple Champions Cup titles with so many players from Split…

«Impossible to be replied today first of all because in former Yugoslavia players couldn’t leave before they turned 28. Then after Drazen, the rule changed».

«Now very good young players move when they are 16, 17 or 18. Financial power of Croatian basketball is very low so once you are good you leave».

«Serbia is different because they have the support of the government and they have 5/6 time the budget. Anyway it’s tough for the too, look at Petrusev for example, a ABA Liga MVP. Even Partizan or Zvezda, they couldn’t sign him…».

«Then it depends, remember Musa as another example… Some players grow later, we need to be patient. Other examples like Giedraitis, Grigonis, Melli, Fontecchio are all similar cases... Melli arrived in Milano, then was released, he was not happy and needed 3/4 seasons away to be the star he is now. So probably it’s true it’s too early for Petrusev, then he is playing in a role where there are the best players»

About John Brown III, his great impact on the team, a real surprise, definitely unexpected…

«For me too he is a great surprise because I thought he could play only as 5, not as a 4 since he is not a great shooter… the same doubts everybody was having. But when you see the guy practising everyday the things change».

«His heart, how he plays, how he enjoys basketball is something I never saw before. He competes everyday, every practice, every game he wants to be the best».

«When we prepare games sometimes we tell him that we have to double-team some of the players he is guarding but he says “No, I want to play D 1vs1″»

«We are talking about a player that can do everything because he wants to do it. He is 93 kilos but nobody is moving hime, he is not a jumper but he grabs rebounds, he fights for every ball».

«For the young coaches, if they are listening, don’t cut the guys until you see them everyday».
